It’s not a big surprise that some people hate going to the dentist. For some reason, everything that a dentist does creep them out – from the pain, needles, confined-spaces, filling, drilling, up to billing – all these dental stuff scream fear! These and all the horror dental stories they heard or read online amplifies the hate or fear of dental clinic visits. Some reasons may seem to be irrational to most of us, but here are some of the most common things that make them hate dentists.
To some individuals, going to the dentist is stressful enough, and hearing technical terms plus a bunch of lectures (that mostly go over their head) about your current situation doesn’t help at all. Some dentists tend to scold patients for their dental hygiene and such, making them feel ashamed. Some people are a bit sensitive and don’t want to hear any upsetting words from his dentist since their only purpose is to get rid of their mouth problems and hearing their dentist tell something obvious about their current situation feels a little insulting to them.
Money is one of the biggest sources of Dental Drama. Everyone would love to have a perfect set of teeth, but for some people, even a basic dental health care is considered a budget breaker. As weird as it seems, going to a dental clinic is the least priority to those people who work hard to earn money, although it might actually lead to more problems and expenses in the future. For them, seeing a dentist is sometimes an unnecessary luxury.
3. Dental Drill
Eardrum piercing noise, skull quaking vibration and spray, that make patients feel anxious, the dental drill is considered an ultimate nightmare. The fact that a drill, which is used to punch a hole on anything solid inside your mouth, plus the brain-rattling sound is intolerable. Some patients can’t stand it and never came back because of this unsettling concern.
4. Bad Dental Visit Experiences
Anyone who had an experience going to the dentist with their siblings during their childhood will surely recall their desperate cry for help. It haunts them everytime they enter a dental clinic. Those people who had a traumatic experience with their dentist never came back for their brain is wired for fear.
Small but terrible indeed. Fear of needles or Trypanophobia is one of the most common phobias in the world. Almost 20% of the population around the globe are terrified of needles. The needle is obviously associated with the medical field and dentistry is not exempted from this. Seeing, or even thinking about the needle being injected into their bodies make some people feel uncomfortable. This might be the most probable cause why people don’t go to dental clinics.
These are just a fraction of all the possible reasons why people are afraid of dental clinics, but one thing is for sure, whether you like it or not, you’re going to need to pay them a visit in your lifetime. We all know that dentists are not bad people at all. You hate or fear what they do but they are just doing their job- fixing and taking care of our dental health. If you’re one of those people who can relate in one or more reasons on this list, you know at the back of your mind that one way or another, something worse, more terrifying might happen if you don’t make your dental health a priority. So let go of the fear, and embrace all the great benefits that you can get when you visit your dentist.
If this list did not include your own personal fear, please share it and maybe throw in some possible ways to overcome them as well!
